Common questions

Where is the best place to sell clothes online in the UK?

For everyday high-street clothes, Vinted is hard to beat because sellers pay no fees. eBay suits brands people search for by name and higher-value items. Depop suits vintage, streetwear and a younger audience. Many sellers list on more than one.

Does it cost anything to sell clothes on Vinted?

No. Listing and selling are free, and you keep the full sale price. The buyer pays a Buyer Protection fee and postage on top.

How much do you keep on Depop?

Depop no longer charges UK sellers a selling fee, but it takes a payment processing fee of 2.9% plus 30p on the total the buyer pays, including postage.

Do I pay tax on selling my old clothes?

Selling your own unwanted clothes for less than you paid is not normally taxable. If you buy items to resell and take more than £1,000 in a tax year, you may need to tell HMRC. Platforms also report sellers who make 30 or more sales or roughly £1,700 in a year. Check GOV.UK for the current rules.

Can I get anything for joining Vinted?

Yes. Join through an invite link and you can earn up to £10 in vouchers: £5 for listing 3 items within 7 days and £5 for your first sale within 30 days. See how it works.
